On Thing Leads To Another

A few months ago, Mom came over and was helping me do some cleaning. She pointed out some areas that seemed concerning about my refrigerator. My refrigerator does have some age on it. Several years ago, I called the company to ask them a question, and they said that it was already several years out of it life expectancy, at that point. I had been waiting for my fridge to die, and that just was not seeming to happen. I talked to Mike, and we decided to look into getting a new refrigerator.

We went on a date and the main focus was....Refrigerator shopping!! I thought that I had a pretty normal size refrigerator, however I soon discovered that out of the 3 places we went to, to look, we had a choice of 2. The 1 I did not like at all, the other I could clearly look over. I think it came to the bridge of my nose--not a top choice. Apparently, when our house was built, they put in fridges that were only slightly bigger than a dorm fridge (might be a slight exaggeration, but I was frustrated!!)

I found another place that sold appliances, and they said they could order one for us that would fit, I liked the layout, and it had all the factors that we wanted. I was happy.

Then I got to thinking. The guys are going to install this for us. I do not want to move the fridge in a year or so, to re-do the floor. (We have had a problem with our ice maker since we moved here 11 years ago. I don't want to move the fridge for fear that something may come undone and we would be back to the same problem!) So, again, I talked to Mike and we decided to take care of the flooring problem.

We went and picked out the new flooring.

Wednesday, Mike and Dad, (I helped a little) took up the old...

Then they started to put down the new...

I think I looks great. I am anxious to wash, and get rid of some of the sticky spots. Mike needs to do under the fridge today, then next week we can have the fridge delivered.
I wonder what else this could lead to.

One Year Ago Today....

....I started blogging!

At that time, I was enjoying reading my sister's blog, my friend, Davene's blog, and a few others that I had come across, along the way. I was not thinking of starting one for myself. It seemed that they had so many interesting things to write, what on earth would I write about??

Davene, had made several suggestions that I should start one. I would always think, "yeah, yeah..." Then when I decided to give it a try, I had to come up with a name. Lana got really excited about this. I remember her calling me, and having all sorts of names that she would run by me. I would nix them all. It would not be too long, and she was calling me with some new suggestions. Then I suggested something like, "The Joys Of My Boys." But then I thought better of that because I wasn't sure that all my posts would be about joys. That is when I came up with "Moments With My Boys." That can pretty much cover anything!

Now, I wondered, "What am I going to write about. Just because I have a blog set up, doesn't mean that interesting things are going to happen." I don't know anything overly interesting has happened over the past year, but I have found this to be a great way to document little moments of my boys lives. I had been journaling before, but would only write about once a month... if I remembered. I think a lot of little moments were lost while I was doing that. This way I document what is going on, and I do it more regularly. Often, I think, nobody will find this post interesting. But, it may be something that their future wives will enjoy one day.

So, one year, and 208 posts later, I am enjoying this process.

I Couldn't Help But Think Of...

1 Cor 13:11.

Adam has been saying that he wants a desk in his room (since we recently revamped Austin's room). I kept putting him off, thinking that one day I would find a nice, regular size desk for his room, just not today.

Then Adam saw a desk in the basement, and that suited him just fine. The desk is a small child size desk. Perfect for Adam.

We worked on making a nice space for his new treasure.

We took out the toy box that was in his room.

And moved in his new desk. For him to work on bills, income taxes, errrr....uhhh...maybe doing some coloring sheets or writing will do for now.

"When I was a child I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me." 1 Cor 13:11

I think this might be a sign that Adam is growing up.

The New Game

Mike bought a new game for the boys. It is called (and I am not kidding) Scabs~N~Guts. This game is facts about the human body. One of my thoughts after seeing this game was, "I have boys, this game would not be in the house if I had girls." Oh Well.... Mike played a round with the boys before bed tonight. I really found it interesting.

Some of the questions are about the body, how it functions, or names of different parts. However, some are not so serious. Adam got a question, "How do you deal with homesickness?" His choices were: a) take something with you from home, b)eating worms, or c)staying home. Adam choose "c," which of course was not right. So, Mike explained that the correct answer was "a" taking something from home. Adam's eyes lit up and he said, "I know, JESUS!" Mike was not sure what to say because that was not what the game meant, but he was right.

The game was about to end, and both boys landed on the same spot. Mike said, "this might be a good time to stop, then we can call it a tie." The boys were determined that they had to finish. Mike asked each boy how they would feel if they did not win. Austin said he would not be sad. Adam, however, said, "I will be sad, but only an inch." Hmmmm....that is a new one! Measuring feelings by inches. Only Adam!

Camping

We went camping this weekend. Friday, the boys and I got out to the campsite a little before supper. The boys had time to look around, ride their bikes, and go to the stream while I put up the tent.

While exploring the grounds, Adam found this bear...

...and just had to have his picture taken with it!

Saturday, we went for a hike to go to the mountain swing. We were almost to the swing and Adam got bit by some kind of bee. (I had never seen a bee quite like that one!)

He was hurting pretty badly, but was still able to have his turn on the swing before we went back down.

Austin had his turn and hammed it up for the camera!

Adam and I walked down the mountain and put some ice on his bite. Once it leveled off, I gave him a piggy back ride, since it was still hurting.

One of the best things about camping it fixing your food over a fire! The boys were so excited to roast hot dogs.

Saturday night, Mike entertained the kids while we sat around the fire. He had a system that had little cartoon clips put to songs. The kids loved it.

We had a great weekend. But, it sure was nice to come home and sleep in my bed!!

God Understands What He Means

Last night, Adam and I were getting ready to say his bedtime prayers. He asked whether it was hot or not. I told him, "Yes, it was hot." Not sure what that had to do with anything, we went on with our prayer. Adam started his prayer, then I heard, "...Thank You, for a pink day!"

I had to ask, "What is a pink day?" He told me a pink day is when it is hot and beautiful, and a purple day is when it is cooler and beautiful.

I can just imagine God hearing Adam's prayer and saying, "Yes, Adam, it was a pink day." He knew exactly what he was talking about.

Chef In The Making...

...but the service needs work!

Friday was the last day for the enrichment program that the boys were in. To end Austin's class we got an invitation to come and have lunch, with our child that was prepared by our child. I got there with Adam and we sat down, we were a tiny bit late. Everyone at our table had their appetizers. Austin finally brought us some food, but no plate. My friend was sitting across the table from us, and she was done, so she offer us her plate.

I noticed that everyone at our table had daughters. Then I noticed that they were all coming and taking their parents order. I sat...and waited...and sat...and waited. Finally, Austin came with a plate full of food! He sat down and looked at me, he was ready to dig in. I asked, "Are you going to get me a plate?" He said, "Oh, yea..." So, he ran off. When he came back he returned with an EMPTY plate. I told him, "I meant a plate FULL of food." He decided that it would be okay for us to share. So he gave me 2 bites of quiche, a quarter of a piece of bread with honey butter, I did not get any of the salad-except for the few items that he deemed to yucky to eat.

The people I sat with were giggling about this, I did find that this was kind of funny. The girls certainly did their service in a much different way than Austin did!

Service or not, Austin learned a lot this week. He had fun, and that is the most important thing!
